The Summer School of Religions (Islamic Mysticism and Spirituality)is an opportunity for those interested in theology to get acquainted with theological and religious issues and the views of experts in this regard by attending intensive workshops in a short time. The first course of this summer school, which is held from September 2 to 9, is the Paderborn course organized in collaboration with the University of Religions & Denominations and the University of Paderborn.
The Islamic Mysticism and Spirituality course contains an overview of general lines and different dimensions of Islamic mysticism (‘irfan. The aim of this course is to present essentials and elements of spirituality and mysticism ‘irfan in a simplified language in order to give the readers a clear picture of Islamic spirituality. By the completion of this course, students shall be able to (1) Recognize the major ethical and philosophical precepts that unite Sufism across its many manifestations, (2) Become aware of key variations within the varied panorama of Sufi thought and practice, and (3) Be able to place Sufism within a historical and cross-cultural perspective.
