On the last day of 2014, with the participation of Muslim and Buddhist thinkers from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, and Islamic Republic of Iran, the meeting of “Multilateral Dialogue between Islam and Buddhism” was held in the University of Religions and Denominations.
World top Buddhism leaders were at URD to discuss possible grounds of “cooperation between Muslims and Buddhists for confronting violence and extremism” with their Persian counterparts.
Dr. Alimardi, the dean of Religions faculty of URD and its members: Dr.s Qanbari, Jafari, Lakzaee and Meftah discussed on themes such as the role of religious leaders in promotion of spiritual and ethical values, Muslim-Buddhist cooperation, challenges and solutions, recommendations of Islam and Buddhism regarding moderation, non-violence and avoiding extremism with the top monks of Buddhism from Thailand, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
At the beginning of the meeting Dr. Alimardi, the dean of Religions faculty, extended URD president, Dr. Navvab, s warm welcome to the Buddhist monks and then presented a report on the educational and research activities in URD regarding Buddhism.
He also called Buddhism and Islam as the religions of peace and tolerance, inviting the monks to extend this message to their nations when back home.
For the rest of the meeting, in their lectures, the two sides stressed on their inclination towards avoiding violence and extremism especially those done under the flag of religion all over the world .
